About The New York City Arthouse Meetup Group

In case you were wondering, an 'arthouse' is technically a non-mainstream cinema. So if it's a movie playing at any of the new AMC-Loews chain of theaters we probably won't be watching it as a group (never say never).

Of course, sometimes a theater chain you wouldn't expect (like the Clearview) will offer a fun classic so there are exceptions to the rule. Basically we go for subtitled fare at the Film Forum, IFC Center, Landmark-Sunshine, Quad, Cinema Village, MOMA, Walter Reade theater, etc.

We are adding new members all the time so there's always plenty of new opinions and discussions, not to mention the opportunity to hear what other meetups are doing.

The meetup leader usually carries an 8X10 red, white, & black meetup sign, so if gathering around the logo of meetup.com is stigmatizing to you please let us know and we'll make arrangements for you to find the group leader in a sign-free manner.

We try to accommodate all levels of cinephilia, but if you haven't seen a current film in the last six months you may feel left out of some of the conversation, so bone up or do some research on IMDb.com, that way you can share as much knowledge as you receive.
