Announcing a new event for Radical Visions Cinema Club! What: Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
When: Thursday, November 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Castro Theatre
Valerie and Her Week of WondersJoin us Thursday, November 1 when we visit the beautiful Castro Theatre to see a masterpiece of Czech surrealist cinema presented with live musical accompaniment, Jaromil Jires' "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders" (1970). This rarely screened coming-of-age fantasy film, adapted from a surrealist text by Nezval, "is a luminous dream narrative laden with vampires, doppelgangers, sinister characters, and shimmering maidens." The film's soundtrack will be performed live by The Valerie Project, a Philadelphia-based chamber-rock ensemble whose music provides "a sonic crucible through which the film's folk narrative blossoms and evolves." Also screening with Valerie is Jiri Barta's magical short, "The Last Theft" (1987), accompanied by Spoonbender 1.1.1.
